We always love when customers stop by the shop in their vintage VWs or Dune buggies! Last week the weather was just perfect for cruising and we had 2 people take advantage of that first was Jeff in the 1960 bug that he has been cruising all over the place lately! Then on Friday, we had a Dune buggy from Taylor Made Restorations in Gettysburg just so happen to stop at the shop next to our fiberglass shop. Funny enough he has Looney Toons murals all over his buggy and even "Acme Dune Buggy Company" painted on the rear fender although he didn't fully know about us and our restoration and aircooled parts shop in New Cumberland!
Some of you that have called in and talked to us, or have ordered bodies, and have heard about the move that is underway here at the Acme facilities. We realized that we have not shared it with everyone, so here's the breakdown of what is going on. we are moving our fiberglass shop from the Hanover location to the back shop at ACME Headquarters here in New Cumberland PA. The back shop was previously used as the main restoration and build shop area but those operations will now be in the South half of the main building. We have downsized the trailer/truck body portion to accomplish this. The effort is a large feat but it also will make work a lot smoother, and eliminate the constant 2 hour round trip drive between the 2 locations. At this time production is still being done in Hanover and will continue there until we are ready to move all the last bits of equipment. We will lose a few weeks of production in mid-July but are making every effort to minimize the impact on availability of products. By the time Bugs by the River rolls around, the fiberglass operation will be fully operational here in New Cumberland. We will be offering tours and maybe we will be giving a chopper gun operation. We will be posting pictures occasionally through out the move, and Tyler Imschweiler will be doing updates on his Story!
This past weekend is always one of the highlights of the beginning of the
show season... It all kicks off with the 48th NSRA Street Rod Nationals East
in York. After the show is done for the day many street rodders and other
car enthusiasts hit the streets and cruise on both Friday and Saturday! Then
Bright and early Sunday morning all the VW guys load up and head to Maple
Grove Raceway for June Bug Classis! We thought we'd share some photos from
each of the three events!
It's fiberglass Friday and today we would like to spotlight one of our customer's builds! Keith Steckenfinger is a good friend of the company and an all-around buggy guy! Earlier this year he came up to our shop to order a new Nostalgia body For a chassis that he had been building the nothing he was sure of was the color he wanted! one thing he did know is he didn't want a color that you see all the time. Luckily we had made some Wagon Buggy bodies in colors that we have never made bodies in just for the fun of it! As soon as he saw the Cinnamon he knew that was it! One of the cool things about this build is the pride that Keith took in the Berrien Buggy name. As you can see Keith did a lot of custom touches on this to make it his! It is always great to see the build that comes out of a customer's garage! Remember we always love to see and share your builds!
We had a great weekend in Carlisle with all of our fellow Dune Buggy friends we went on a few Cruises including to Buddy Boy Winery as well as the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing! There was also a lot of fun with the Valve cover racing on Friday and Saturday night! The Monster and Puzzle Manx had a very nice display where lots of people could see what a buggy looks like when it goes through the Baja (fun fact that is only one day of dust)! We ever were able to have a small Berrien Family Reunion on the stage after the racing!
Today is the first day of the Carlisle import and performance nationals and we are already 20 buggies strong… a few Berrien’s already there and more to come! If you decide to come don’t forget your Valve Cover Race Car for the Acme Cup races!
We've been posting a whole lot about our off-road buggies this past week but we thought today we would share one of our customer's Street buggies that stopped by! This buggy has made quite the trip to show up just a few minutes from our shop! This was the first-ever Black Stratosphere Nostalgia that was ever made after the color was chosen by the group of dune buggy enthusiasts that came to Carlisle 2 years ago! It was then picked up by our dealer Dan's Custom Upholstery in Alton IL who then sold the body to a customer to build! the customer built a beautiful buggy but for some reason choose to sell it which is when Tim saw the buggy listed and just had to have it! The funny part is it just so happens that Tim lives here in New Cumberland right down the road from our Shop! To bring the story of this car to a fitting ending Tim is planning on bringing this buggy into the Carlisle Import and Performance Nationals this weekend where the whole idea of this special color was birthed 2 years ago! Hopefully, we will get to see some of you as well this weekend in Carlisle where there will be over 30 buggies on display not only including this buggy but also many other buggies that we have shared photos of in our posts such as Andy's Lime Green Nostalgia, as well as Joe Wheelers Puzzle Manx and our Monster Manx Fresh of the Baja race course!
Yesterday was the last day of racing for all of the teams down in the Baja!
All teams were able to finish the race which is a feat in and of itself!
History was made when Best day Ever racing passed the finish line in the
Puzzle Manx as they are the first-ever all-female team to complete the
Mexican 1000 all while racing awareness for breast cancer! Today we would
like to shout out a few people, not only all the teams that banded together
to make sure they all can make it to the finish line but also those team
members that you don't see! firstly the whole crew in all of the chase
vehicles without them the teams would be running out of gas and probably not
able to make it down to peninsula! Next, all the people who were not able to
go to Mexico with the teams this year, but still tracked and kept in
communication with the teams to make sure they say save as well as giving
updates on the teams every day! Congratulations to all the teams that have completed the race!
—— NORRA UPDATE ——
Today is the final day of racing down in the Baja from La Paz down to Cabo!
Yesterday was a good hard day out in the sand! BNR in the Monster Manx ran
an almost perfect day with no issues the whole day! The Girls drove the
Puzzle Manx hard through the first special of the day but while in transit
to the second special had some Fuel delivery issues. Although they were able
to get the issue fixed they decided to just take max time due to safety
concerns! Now we'd like to shout out all the other Manx Club racing teams as
we are all working together to make sure that we all reach the finish line!
Today the Monster Manx will be starting at 11:07:00 (1:07 EDT) and will be
piloted by Tyler Imschweiler co piloted by Chris Lewis for the first three
stages then John Mickle President of the Acme Companies will be taking over
the driving duties for the final leg of the race to Cabo with Paul Mabin as
the co pilot! Best Day Ever Racing will be taking off at 11:16:30 (1:16:30
EDT)! Good luck to all racing today!
